What are some fun ways to learn Japanese (specifically the language and Kanji) without spending any money?

For general language: search for the "Let's Learn Japanese" series of videos with Yan-san. I find them pretty entertaining.

For Kanji: Lot's of people like Kanji Koohii (kanji.koohii.com) which is free, though I never found it very "fun" myself.

Also check out Erin's Challenge (https://www.erin.ne.jp/en/). I don't think they do much Kanji, but you'd be surprised how much stuff is hidden away in that site.

Eventually (especially for learning Kanji) you're going to need to spend a little money for a good textbook or two as well as a quality electronic dictionary. You'll also likely find that few people have learned very much Japanese without a few tears. ;)
