人人(Hito Hito) - sounds strange

人々(Hito bito) - commonly used

We usually pronounce "hitobito".
I've never say "hitohito".

(for your infomation, we normally don't use "人人" when you mean people. we write "人々".
[々] is a ditto.)

Repeat words using 々 often read by kun-yomi and the second one with sonant mark like 細々(hosoboso), 時々(tokidoki), 日々(hibi).
By the way, I don't know how to pronounce 々 itself.(lol
