What is kimi in songs? 2014/10/4 07:22
What is kimi is songs, in a lot of Japanese music I hear them use Kimi in songs but not in speech, I translated it and it says it means "guy" but I don't know and I want to know why it is use in songs and not speech.

'Kimi Ga Matteiru Kara' by Gackt
"kimi wo sagashitetan da ne" by L'Arc en ciel
and more.

"Kimi" meaning "you" has always been used in poetic expressions such as poems, haiku and songs. It used to be commonly used among men in Tokyo, but not any more. But even today, people use "kimi" in daily conversation to emphasise a humorous tone or a snobbish tone.

Nobody says kimi.
Its only really used with very familiar people like girlfriends, family members, etc....
Except....
with such people you already have better things to call them than 'you'.
