I will be visiting Tokyo from the U.S.A and wanted to know where I can buy high quality Japanese Produced rice. What brands/types are considered superior.
Same for other gourmet food items.

I recommend Niigata Uonuma Koshihikari, Nagano Kijimadaira Koshihikari, and Yamagata Milky Queen. You can buy it at any supermarket in Tokyo.

This is Top 38 特A(tokuA) brands (特 means Super/Special) selected from 131 products by JGIA. http://www.kokken.or.jp/data/ranking_tokua.pdf [PDF] http://www.kokken.or.jp/english.htmlBut any brand rice will be fail if by wrong way of making and different waters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_riceBuy also Japanese water and higher class of electric rice-cooker(over 50000Y),too. This is one of latest TV-CM(TIGER) "fea: donabe[土鍋] tec" http://youtu.be/Sp2i9a67kGwand satisfaction ranking of biggest online shopping compare web. http://kakaku.com/kaden/rice-cooker/ranking_2125/rating/And any brand not always super matched any food menu. Learn before each rice and food menu characters like wine. Also should eat and know real good taste rice at good restaurants first. If you have enough money and travel days go and stay high class Ryokan/Hotel major rice field area Niigara,Akita and Miyagi PF. However real farmer's house making rice are Super BEST :) BC local pure clean water best matching and no waste. Some Japanese famers(not only rice) open own FB pages ask them maybe good.
