Hotel location

Hey!
We will be staying in Japan as a couple in April. We are about to order a reservations for our hotels, but we would like your help in advance:
Where is the best location to stay in a hotel in each of this cities, note that we are looking for cheap hotels most of the time:
Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Miyajima, Kanazawa.

Best is subjective...

like do you want to be near nightlife? Or want it to be more quiet?

And when exactly in April? If it's sakura season you can kinda say goodbye to cheap available hotels in Kyoto at least.

They are cheap and mostly congregated around subway/JR stations for convenience.

I'd definitely say that the best place to stay is the nearest place to where you want to be.

But, of course, sometimes it isn't.
