Use of onsen facilities at hotels

In Japan may I go go into big hotels as a non-guest and pay a fee to use their onsen / sento? Or are these facilities only for guests of the hotel?

It depends on the hotel! Some offer their baths to non-staying guests during daytime for a fee. Some don't.
