Which are the cities in Japan where self-drive is recommended? Hokkaido self drive was enjoyable and was wondering which other cities. Okinawan? Any this spring with cherry blossoms?

Anywhere outside the major cities, including Tohoku, northern and southern Kanto, Chubu, southern and northern Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku and Kyushu. If I had the choice to do a driving trip right now, I would do the Trans-Kyushu Route (Yamanami Highway) with lots of onsen and volcanic landscapes.
