Stay in Furano, Biei, or Asahikawa?

Hi,
We're planning a 6d5n in Hokkaido (then continue our trip to Tokyo) in end May.
We're travelling with a 2 year old, self drive, so would want to keep things slow.
Does it make sense for us to go to Asahikawa, or should we stick to only Sapporo-Furano-Biei?
We prefer to fly in and out from Chitose because we're leaving our luggage in Narita for a few days until we fly back to Singapore.

Actually, I correct the above...its Furano that has the nice views! But its only about 1.5-2 hour drive to Asahikawa from Furano, so you could easily do it as a side trip...
