Nikko or Hakone in Summer (July 2015)

Hi! We will be visiting Tokyo this July 2015 for 6 days and 5 nights. We are planning to spend the duration of our stay seeing most of Tokyo and a day trip (or 2). With all the travel posts I've read, Hakone and Nikko are the most popular side trip options. What would you recommend as the better destination, given that we are going there this summer?

Hakone is closer Mt.Fuji with onsen a lot popular than summer Nikko.
But around until mid July is still rainy season usual watch weather forecast carefully.

I would recommend Nikko. The nature in Oku-Nikko is great.
