Mount Fuji: Do I need a permit to climb? 2015/4/10 23:46
Hi, we are a group of 5 adults and wish to climb Mount Fuji on the 12th of September this year by the Gotemba Trail. Do I have to request for a permit of just filled a form required and submit to the police station at the base before ascending?

Is there any fee required?

Thank you.

Hello

I live in Odawara city very close to Gotemba ciy and have climbed Mt. Fuji. Its 2 years ago.

Since Mt. Fuji was registered as World Heritage last year, maybe some procedure has been changed compared with when I climb.

However you dont need any special permit.
Maybe you have to pay around 1000JPY before climb but its not complicated procedure.

Anyway note that Mt Fuji closes on September.
Last year, it closed on 15th Sep.

Thank you Keimatsu San.
I had found out that the Gotemba Route will be close on 10 September this year. I guessed I am 2 days late for the Gotemba Route. That's left for the popular Yoshida Route which will still be available until the 16th September.

So do I need a special permission apart from the 1000 yen fee? I am trying to budget. The current offer by a bus company is a bit expensive as it's inclusive of a professional guide, lunch and resting place. Can I prebook the sleeping hut online?

Thank you again.

Hi Zoolabd-san

Ive climbed Mt Fuji twice.
There was no special permission.
So in my opinion, only you have to do is to pay 1000 yen.

As for sleeping hut, you can book from below link.
http://www.mfi.or.jp/w3/home0/taisikan/

When I climbed Mt. Fuji before,
I finished my work at 5pm and arrived at Mt. Fuji 10pm,
then started to climbed and arrive at the top of mountain at 5am
without sleeping.

Like this, many people go to the top without sleeping and can see sunrise.

In my opinion, there is an option "no sleep".

I see you are a very fit person Keimatsu San :) Indeed!
Hopefully we will be able to succeed even at a regular pace.
I am 59 and the others are very young averaging 25yrs.
And hopefully too I will be able to succeed along with them.
So with 1000yen payment and without any forms to fill, anyone will be able to climb it. It's very convenient indeed.

In Malaysia only, I think, Mount Kinabalu in Sabah need to have a written consent and a guide one to be able to climb. Maybe due to frequent cases of accidents occurred every year.

Thank you for infos and hope for a good time at Fuji San in September.

Hi Keimatsu San, is it possible that we choose not to stay in the hut but sleep in a sleeping bag and rest before going for the summit? Will they allow sleeping outside the hut or is there any space to rest other than at the hut.

Thank you

Hello Zoolabd-san

In front of the hut, I dont think they allow you to sleep.

As for other free space, they dont prohibit to sleep but its not good manner in Mt. Fuji tho I wanna also sleep in free space...

How about sleeping in 5th station of Mt. Fuji?
How will you go to the 5th station ? bus? car?

We are planning to go by bus from Shinjuku. If we were to sleep at the 5th station, we have to climb up without sleeping on the way to the summit to see the rising sun isn't? So I guess there are no people sleeping in tents outside the rest house.
