Hida-Takayama day trips to Nagano

I have booked four days in Takayama and wondering if that is too much. Can I make easy day trips to Nagano? I'd like to see Matsumoto, Snow monkeys in Yamanouchi.

Matsumoto is a direct, two hour bus ride away and easily done in a single day: https://www.alpico.co.jp/access/express/matsumoto_takayama/However, the monkey park is an additional two hours (one way) from Matsumoto. You would be spending about 9 hours on buses and trains. It may be theoretically possible to do in a single day (you would have to look up timetables), but I don't recommend it. On your way back from the monkey park to Takayama it may be faster to travel by shinkansen via Toyama.
