http://tabelog.com/tokyo/A1320/A132001/13005853/I am trying to contact this shop but I can't figure out how to call them. Skype isn't working when I input the number as is. I thought all Tokyo numbers begin with 03 and eight other numbers... What am I missing here?

Skype isn't working when I input the number as is.Did you put in the country code first (and dropping the first zero)? Try dialing like this: +81-422-29-0888 Assuming that works, your skype number is likely treated like a foreign phone. Instructions here for when you need to dial other numbers: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2223_how.htmlI thought all Tokyo numbers begin with 03 and eight other numbers... What am I missing here? Not all Tokyo numbers start with 03. There are lots of other prefixes that denote specific parts of Tokyo. 0422 for example is Musashino, Tokyo where the patisserie is located.

Ok, so I dialed it correctly then. I just tried it again and it went through. I really dislike that they can turn off their phone line to where a call won't even go through until they turn it back on. At least have an answering machine so I know that you are still in business.

Most likely the phone line was busy and they don't have call waiting. Not the best, but unfortunately not all that uncommon for small businesses.

The shop's official website, which is linked to the Tabelog site, is clearly updated and shows their business hours and dates, so a typical Japanese resident wouldn't feel the need for an answering machine. Meanwhile, we can see from their website that they don't seem prepared to do big business with people overseas, as they don't have information in other languages (not that it seems they want to avoid it). Their district of Kichijoji has always been very popular for small-business shops like these. http://atessouhaits.sblo.jp/
