Yououh sound in Japanese culture

I have seen some animes as well as played some Japanese originated games where this typical "yououh~" sound from a male voice is heard.
Several years ago during Stockholm Japan culture days there was a theater where a lady was doing the same kind of sound, "yououh~".
What is this kind of sound and part of the Japanese culture? I am very curious to find out.

I have no idea. If you could describe the situation in the game, somebody might be able to figure it out.

It can be an interjection for greeting/appraisal, usually used between men.

Just wanted to say, I've always wanted to know what it means as well and I used to find it absolutely hilarious.

Ah, that's what I thought it was. It's originally a serious form of performance used in traditional theater such as kabuki and nou, but in the footage you provided the mix is meant to be hilarious. Originally, it is a call to sort of trigger the next exciting part of the performance. You may be able to get a better view of it through the following footage of an authentic nou performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBHG7BTFDGIBut it's so classical that it sounds funny or over-the-top when mixed into pop culture like the one you provided. Hope it helps.

Yes thats the sound I was looking for.
Well, not sure if it was a nou theater or kabuki I was watching back then, it was more like a modern act or something. The audience was quite amused by the sudden high pitched sound they made.
Is there any typical name for this other than "yo-ouh"?

Kakegoe is the only term I can think of, though it has a broader sense.
