Good mosquito repellent 2016/7/14 07:13
Does anyone know of one? I've looked around a few shops but my reading skills aren't up to scratch and I can't tell what I'm looking at. I'm in Tokyo, theoretically this shouldn't be too difficult. Either way, I'm desperate for something to keep mosquitos away when I go out.

Thanks in advance for any help

Mosquitos aren't really an issue in Tokyo, but you can get bug repellent (called mushiyoke or Skin Guard) at any good drug store. Cost about 300-400 yen per bottle.

You can make by yourself esay and cheaper s total cost for long summer days.
Buy only "hakka oil" and "ethanol" enough.

"hakka(ハッカ)" means "mint" no different one in other countries.

100ml :
- ethanol : 10ml (about) / under 500Y/100ml
- oil : 20-40 drops (about) / around 800Y/20ml small bottle
- clean water 90ml (about/purified water/精製水:seisei-sui best but not must)
Just mixed etanol and oil first then add water shake harder.
Only by oil and water possible but lower temp water won't be mixed perfectly/quickly.

Mosquito/蚊(ka/か) and most bugs/虫(mushi/むし) hate smell of mint.
Mosquito loves CO2(carbon dioxide) and alcohol smell by breath and sweat.

In Japan no serious bad mosquito like "malaria" bringing.
Just be small swelling with one or two days usual.
(itching is not so intense except first hrs)

Recent spray and similar products iclude "deet/ディート" usual.

Including "deet" products seem not good for kids mainly.
