I have Working Visa. Can I get back to Japan? 2016/9/6 04:50
Hi, about a month ago, I was to start a job in Japan.

But due to some ongoing health issues, I had to move back to US.

It was supposed to be a teaching job, and my Visa is still valid.

At the airport, I just told immigration officer that I may come back in few months if my health gets better.

I always wanted to live in Japan, but was depressed that I wasn't able to accomplish it due to my health.

I want to take care of my health first, and then try to seek if there is any way I can land a job in Japan again in few months.

I'm wishing that I can get non-teaching if possible.
I speak English, Korean and decent Spanish.

So is there any way I can obtain a job in Japan again? I have teaching Visa and is valid for a year.
What if I do an interview with some company and they ask me why I have Visa but didn't work? Would it look suspicious that they might think that I just ran away as soon as I got working Visa?

Right now I'm in US and trying to save money and hoping I can get back to Japan in some way.

If nothing else works, I'm planning to study in Japan for few months. (Now this won't happen for few years if I decide to go this route)

Your visa is likely no longer valid. Work visas are sponsored by companies; when you said you couldn't work anymore, your company would have told Immigration that and they would have cancelled your visa.

You can certainly apply for other jobs to get another visa in the future.

I think my Visa is still valid.
At the airport, the immigration officer said Visa will be valid for a year, so I need to come back within a year if I still want to work in Japan.

I heard that most schools who provide Visa don't bother to cancel Visa of those who leave their school.
Well I guess I can check this by going to Japanese embassy.

Your visa is irrelevant, what matters is your status of residence. What is it?

According to your first post you most likely hold one year resident status as either an instructor or a specialist in humanities. In that case you can come back to Japan and find a new job. If it is covered by the same status than you can just update your new job with immigration. If it is not covered than you will have to change to the proper status of residency. This is all pretty straightforward assuming you meet the minimum requirements.

Possible, the steps depend on your status of residence.

That could very well pose a problem. Employers don't like to see people who leave so quickly. It shows that the applicant may be a poor investment vs someone without such baggage. On the other hand you just need to find an employer willing to take a chance on you.

That is not correct. After you leave your job they will need to inform immigration within 14 days. After that you are allowed some time to get your employment status in order before any moves are made to cancel your status of residence.

They are required to by law.

Well I guess I can check this by going to Japanese embassy.

I would be good to double check with them.
