Fukuoka to Tokyo- itinerary and suitable pass 2017/10/26 04:31
I'm looking for recommendations for itinerary and suitable passes from Fukuoka to Tokyo.
I leave Fukuoka on Nov 14 and fly out from Tokyo on Dec 11.
I'd interested in the following:
Hiroshima
Miyajima
Cycle shimanami kaido
Osaka
Nara
Koyansan ( at least one night)
Kumano kodo ( 6 day trek)
Kyoto (at least 4 days)
Tokyo (at 4 days)

I have looked into regional passes such as JR Sanyo sanin and kansai wide but getting very confused when I try to map this against my itinerary! I'm happy to take the odd highway bus when it makes sense.

Note I will already have visited the Japanese alps and Kyushu area earlier in my trip.
Thank you
Dee

The full JR Pass is often useless for people with very slow and long itineraries like yours. Sometimes a series of regional passes can help more, or sometimes no pass works for people at all.
For within Fukuoka, there is a good subway day pass and many good places to see in the city are not far from a subway station. You can find some good places to go to on

You might look at a JR Hiroshima Yamaguchi Area Pass for the first part of your trip. You didn't specify how much time you'd want to spend in each place though.

With the enviably long trip you will have though, there are many good places to see along the way in the Chugoku Region. If you have not seen it before, the Akiyoshido Limestone Cave is the best in Japan and with its 300 million year old history will make you see how small people really are in this big universe.

Also just before Miyajima is Iwakuni, with its really nice bridge and mountaintop castle. Well worth seeing if you have the chance.

Himeji is also well worth seeing - you can make a full day trip out of it.

For the rest of your trip, it's hard to see how any pass can help - though if you gave more info, something might. One last thing is in Tokyo there's a 2-3 day subway pass which can save money.

As above. Due to your trip being 26 days long. No real nation wide travel pass will help you out to save money.

Daily 1/2/3 regional passes for regional areas. Then buses or trains to link you between cities depending on your budget.
