Hallo there. I will be staying at Ryogoku view hotel Tokyo which is 2 min walk to Ryogoku JR station for 7 days. 1.Does Ryogoku JR station have escalator or elevator as I will travel with my 78 yrs old mom? 2. We plan to explore Tokyo using the JR day pass/ Tokunai pass. Will the transfer between JR stations (akihabara, tokyo / chuo sobu line to Yamanote line) be easy ? Do the transfer stations have elevator or escalator? Thanks

Does Ryogoku JR station have escalator or elevator as I will travel with my 78 yrs old mom?Yes, escalators and elevators are available. We plan to explore Tokyo using the JR day pass/ Tokunai pass. Will the transfer between JR stations (akihabara, tokyo / chuo sobu line to Yamanote line) be easy ? Do the transfer stations have elevator or escalator? These days, virtually all JR stations in central Tokyo have escalators and/or elevators, but some of the stations are complex and finding the way can become something that I would not always describe as "easy", especially during the busier times of the day. Note that JR day passes are restrictive (because not valid on the many non-JR lines) and take quite a few rides before they pay off. I personally always combine wise route-planning with using an IC card, instead: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_003.html

1) JR Ryogoku stn layout is very simple, 1 island 2 tracks(No.1 and 2, right and left). Ticket gate is underfloor 1F, platform is 2F. Only 10 cars regular commuter trains stops, elevator/lift placed near Car No.8 and 9. = (WEST)Shinjuku, Akihabara : Car no.10, 9, 8,,,,,,,3, 2, 1 : Chiba, NRT (EAST) = This is train front car view vid for JR Nakano stn(WEST), https://youtu.be/XtFkUJroLQEplay fr 44:00, next is Ryogoku you can see the elevator at 46:02. (including JR Akihabara stn at 49:30) 2) JR-East EN website provides major stns map. http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/stations/index.html?src=gnaviIn Tokyo most stns(JR or not both) wears "Barrier-Free", no worry. http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/customer_support/accessibility.htmlBut it is not always placed near the convenient train car door and stn exits. A lot of passengers using always like this, you may reach longer time. https://youtu.be/e4czg2OYQTQ

Dear Uji and Mallian Thanks a lot for the detail info. The youtube and stn maps are very helpful. 1. In your opinion, is it easier for transfer btw metro subways compared to JR trains for elderly? If yes, I will change our hotel near Tsukiji or Sinthomicho metro stn. 2. Will the combination of Suica for JR and Pasmo for metro be more efficient compared to day pass? We will only make 2 returned trips from our hotel per day ( one in the morning and one in the evening).
Thanks a lot. Louis

Pasmo and Suica are essentially the same and work on all trains, metros and buses in Tokyo and beyond. If you only do one trip per day, just get either Pasmo or Suica and you are free to take what ever train, bis without a lot of planning.
Enjoy your trip to Japan!
