Hi
I will be travelling to Osaka with my friends and kids (total 7 of us) in July 2018. We planned to stay in Osaka for all the 9 days and will only making day trip to Kyoto on 12/7 & 13/7. Can you please advise what is the most economical of pass we should use and if an additional of ICOCA card is required? Many thanks!

Depends on where in Kyoto you are going. But doubtful you'll need any passes. Kansai Thru Pass for example averages 1733 or 2000 yen per day. Osaka to Kyoto is 400-560 yen depending on which rail company you choose. No way you'll reach 1733/2000 yen for the day.
