Access Mt Fuji with wheelchair? 2018/2/9 02:47
Hello all,

My mother, sister and I are going to Japan in March/April. My sister is in a manual wheelchair and would LOVE to go up Fuji-san (Japan is her dream location and we are trying to make this trip as smooth as possible). We definitely cannot climb the mountain, but she wants get as far up as she can rather than just look at it from a viewing platform.

Please advise me on the following if you can:

1. the best way to get to Fuji Subaru Line 5th station, or if it is possible with a wheelchair user? We are looking to buy a JR Tokyo-wide pass, but perhaps there is a more suitable pass for helping us access the area?
The highway buses look to be most common and convenient but I have read that they are not wheelchair accessible.

2. Are the buses that take you around Fuji Five Lakes/Hakone wheelchair accessible? The Fuji-Hakone pass looks great but seems to be mostly for buses.

There is so much information and I am completely confused!

Thank you for your help - it is very much appreciated and you are helping to make my sister's dream come true!

Something to consider: I think Fuji-san is best enjoyed from a distance as part of the landscape; when you're making your way up for Fuji-san and go via the different stations, the mounting sort of disappears as you're on it. The different famous viewing locations might be much better wheelchair accessible, is my guess.

Some of my best memories of Japan are seeing the huge Mt Fuji from Lake Kawaguchiko which is very wheelchair accessible from memory....

Can't see any direct references to Fuji on either of these sites, but the second one does have some photos of wheelchair users near to Fuji (with great views of the mountain). You've quite possibly found these sites already, but I just thought they might be useful....Hope you have a good trip

What about this?

http://nanairokankougaido.com

It says you can hire a wheel-chair friendly taxi for 21,000 yen half day to the 5th station.
