My wife and I are arriving Kansai Airport at around 7 p.m. on March 13, with 2 luggages. What are the suggested routes ( and cost ) to go to ANA Crown Plaza, Kyoto ? Thanks !

From JR Kyoto station you might better take subway to Nijojo-mae. ANA Crowne Plaza is about 5 min walk. Subway will not be crowded by that time.

Train direct to Kyoto Station, then get the free hotel shuttle bus.

Unfortunately, the last free shuttle bus from JR Kyoto station departs at 19:45. Last year I stayed this hotel and my train to Kyoto arrived after 20:00 so I had to take subway.

There is "e" after "Crown" in the name of your hotel.

It is strongly recommended that you pack lightly.
A too large luggage piece may hinder you from taking a local route bus and/or using a baggage storage service.

- JR-West: ICOCA & HARUKA
https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/icoca-haruka/
: The Haruka discount ticket in this package
is mainly for a Haruka train ride without seat reservation.
: When you reserve your Haruka seat(s), the Limited Express surcharge is not covered.

JR Limited Express Haruka trains
arrive at Track 30 and Track 0 near the Central Gate of Kyoto Station,
around the station's Karasuma end [north end].
http://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/timetable/pdf/station_kyoto.pdf

The Haruka trains departing at 19:16 and at 20:16 from Kansai-airport Station
arrive at Track 0 of Kyoto Station and go further to Maibara.

The other Haruka trains departing from Kansai-airport Station
go to Kyoto Station and arrive at Track 30.

In Kyoto Station,
you can follow signs written in black characters on a yellow background.

[Courtesy bus]

As frog1954 explains,
flying into KIX around 7 pm,
you cannot catch the last 19:45 [7:45 pm] courtesy bus leaving Kyoto Station.

(The courtesy buses depart
from the Hachijo end [south end] of the station,
which means you have to walk long with your luggage between the two ends.)

[Kyoto City Bus]

It may take about 10 minutes
for you to get from the platform via the Central Gate
to Bus Stand B1 in the bus terminal.

There buses depart for Nijo(-jo) Castle until around 22:50,
at longer intervals after 21:00 of about 15 to 20 minutes.
When you quickly find the bus stand and soon catch a bus,
you can get to the hotel earlier compared to when you take two subway trains.

Hearing the announcement for Nijojo Mae bus stop,
you or maybe another passenger pushes a button to notify the bus driver.
You pay the bus fare when you get off your bus.

Kyoto Station (Karasuma Bus Terminal)
: Bus Stand B1
| Kyoto City Bus Line #9 (Around 15 min., 230 yen)
Nijojo Mae Bus Stop
: You walk back a little to the south,
and find a crossroad on your left (i.e. to the east).
