Mt Hiei Hiking and bears 2018/2/22 07:54
I am planning on hiking up Mt Hiei in April with my family. My only concern is encountering bears. Is this likely at that location? If so how much of a concern is this?

Thanks

Bears appear throughout Japan and on average there are 40 attacks per year (and a few deaths) - so not particularly likely. Take precautions - bear "bells" are recommended by some people.

More people suffer from snake bites (2000-3000/year, 10 deaths).
