How spacious is Showa Kinen Park? 2018/3/17 23:48
Hi, I'm planning to go Tokyo on 21st of November. My first stop would be Showa Kinen Park.
I will be touching down at Narita at 10.35 AM, take Narita Express and rush to Shinjuku, estimated time of arrival is about 1 PM.

1. If I visit Showa Kinen park on 21st Nov, is it too late for me to enjoy the autumn colors there?
2. Assume that I reach Tachikawa at 2 PM, is there sufficient time for me to cover the whole park before it closes at 5 PM?
3. The google map amazes me seeing how spacious the park is. What are the spots in the park that are worth visiting? Most likely I won't be able all the spots but I will try to get a rented bike and cover as much as possible.

Thanks

I have not been there, but checking around some blogs in Japanese, 2 - 3 hours sounds sufficient.

For example, this website on walking lists the route from Tachikawa station (bottom right) to the park to the far end of the park (upper left), nearer to Nishi-tachikawa station as 5km, taking 1.5 hours.

But is there any way you can maybe change around your schedule so that you can go to Shinjuku-gyoen or some other park nearer to you, on your arrival day? :) Just sounded a bit rushy, that's all.

Open Google Maps again, the scale is also written on the map lower right.

Also you can rent a bike(rent-a cycle) and more other ways.

This might answer some questions...

Note that dates can change depending on the weather at the time. I remember that it was 1-2 weeks before other major koyo (autumn) sites in Tokyo

I have been there during the Autumn season.
It depends on what are you looking for. It took me more than 2 hours to finish my stroll in the park.
The popular location would be the entrance where most would stop for selfies and photoshoot.
The rest of the park is nice too.
There is a lake and a small area to enjoy the view of the lake and the autumn colors.

Hi there. Showa Kinen Park is huge. Took us 3-4 hours to stroll around the park and lingered a bit on the grounds. We especially loved the ginko trees with their golden leaves covering the ground. Half a day should be enough for you to visit and go back to Shinjuku. Please note though that it gets dark really early in November.
