Will the yukatas in oedo onsen fit me? 2018/3/20 11:07
Dear all,

I have seen some videos on the onsen theme park and I would love to visit it. However I am a plus sized woman (18-20 uk) and wondered whether the Yukata would fit me. I know that the arms would fit as it is big but I am scared it won't be wide enough to wrap around me. I have researched and there are sizes from S- 3LL but they are sizes related to your height (e.g S- 160cm, L-170cm) and not width of your hips.

I am worried that I go to the Onsen theme park and pay just to be denied as the Yukata wouldn't fit me (it would be very embarrassing). I was going to enquiry the website but there seemed to be no contact.

Thanks for reading x

Have you thought about buying a cheap yukata that fits you and taking it along to wear.? I am size 16 but have a bigger bust, so I found a man's yukata, same really but bigger, a bit more material(not necessarily longer) and I wear that at home. I would think 3LL would fit you, as that sizing does allow for a bigger person. You need to go to one of those traditional haberdashery stores, that stock all manner of things. You find them in the older style arcades, and things are never expensive. I remember going to the chiropractor in Tokyo and having to put on a yukata, and it didn't meet across my bust! I can laugh now.

I am German 44/46 (http://www.sizeguide.net/womens-clothing-sizes-international-conversio...) which seems to be similar to your size. I did not have a problem with the Yukata at Oedo onsen when I went a few years back.

I just didnft like it so much and never went back. I am just not a fan of theme parks. But a big fan of onsen. My preferred onsen close to Tokyo is in Chofu: http://www.yumorinosato.com/

If you have a day, you can go and visit the temples right behind it (very nice and no foreign tourists, have handmade soba, go and see the botanical garden and then enjoy the onsen. Also their food is really nice, but beware that they close relatively early.

If you want something more central in Tokyo, my second favorite is the super sento in Takaido (http://utsukushi-yu.com/). Very close to Takaido station behind a supermarket.

In both no yukata is needed as they are just normal onsen. You also can rent towels and everything so you donft need to bring anything.

Enjoy your trip to Tokyo!
