From Higashi-Umeda to Osaka Station 2018/3/26 22:49
I am preparing for a nearing vacation in Japan this summer and wanted to make everything in our itinerary sure so we dont waste time getting lost. I've been to osaka before but dont distinctly remember how I did it. So, the question is, does anyone have directions or a map where to go to when transferring from higashi-umeda to osaka station for kyoto (rapid line) and another for hiroshima (shinkansen)? The underground mall seemed like a maze so Im confused. If anyone could help, I'd gladly appreciate.

For the Shinkansen, you need to go to Shin-Osaka.

I think what Firas posted is from Umeda station, but still you can see the general idea. What is important is that you are in the underground and all you can rely on is the "sign" overhead. Honestly I am former Osakan and have been to Umeda many times but I don't understand the whole structure. 40 odd years ago I went Umeda to find books at Kinokuniya book store and usually get lost. There were not internet at that time though.

Search and find "JR Osaka Station". In English it is somewhat smaller, but JR is JR also in Japanese. The major landmark is Hanshin Departent Store and if you find it you are on the right way.

Anyway, many Japanese get lost in Umeda and JR Umeda is one of the most major destination in Umeda region. You may ask for the way to locals and many of them will happily assist you.

I don't have a problem with the signage available inside the subways. B my wife always gets easily lost.

I just tell her to get to the surface, then move onto the station required from there. You just have to wait for the traffic lights to allow you to cross. But it is a small delay compared to walking around in circles if lost.

Indeed it was Umeda, I read that too quickly... There's another one from Osaka to Higashi-Umeda, but not the other way around it seems.

Re: From Higashi-Umeda Sta. to Kyoto 2018/3/28 16:54
from Higashi-Umeda to Osaka station for Kyoto (rapid line)

You may need 10 or more minutes
to walk from subway Higashi-Umeda Station to JR Osaka station.

JR Special Rapid trains bring you
from Osaka Station to Kyoto Station in about 30 minutes,
making stops at Shin-Osaka, Takatsuki and Kyoto Stations in this order.
(Rapid trains, which make more stops, go slower than Special Rapid trains.)

Where is your first destination in Kyoto City?

You alternatively can travel
by subway Tanimachi and Sakaisuji Lines + Hankyu Senri and Kyoto Lines
to Karasuma Station or Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto City
(below the east-west Shijo-dori Street),
making one or two quick transfers.

Disembarking at Karasuma Station,
you can get out through the west ticket gate,
turn to the left,
walk a little to subway Shijo Station
and take a train on the Karasuma Line for a few minutes to Kyoto Station.

Higashi-Umeda Station (T20)
http://www.kotsu.city.osaka.lg.jp/station-guide/T/t20/
: Departure at Track 2
{ Subway Tanimachi Line }
Arrival at Track 2 (of Tanimachi Line):
(T21) Minamimorimachi Station (K13)
http://www.kotsu.city.osaka.lg.jp/station-guide/K/k13/
: Departure at Track 2 (of Sakaisuji Line)
{ Subway Sakaisuji Line
until (K11) Tenjinbashisuji 6-chome
+ Hankyu Senri Line}
Awaji Station
http://www.hankyu.co.jp/global/common/pdf/station_guide/awaji.pdf
: Here your two trains are to use
either the same track or the two tracks beside the same platform.
{ Hankyu Kyoto Line}
Karasuma Station | Kawaramachi Station.

At Minamimorimachi Station (Sakaisuji Line's Track 2),
depending on the timing,
you may catch a Semi Express train bound for Kawaramachi,
which makes a stop at Karasuma Station on the way.
Otherwise,
you can take a train
(which is to run beyond Tenjinbashisuji 6-chome)
until Awaji Station,
where you can catch a train bound for Kawaramachi.
