Usage of Kirikuchi? 2018/4/23 17:20
Hello,

I am not understanding the meaning of the word Kirikuchi 切り口 very well. The dictionary says it means cut section, or opening, but even that barely makes any sense in English. So it's like, let's say, a cut on your hand?

内容としては企業がツイッターなどSNSを使いこなせないという切り口ですが、雑誌の記事とは違った意味合いで、大学生に「SNS疲れ」が現れています。

This is the whole sentence. Best I can translate it is: As for the contents, business cooperation can't use SNS easily (not sure what Kirikuchi means here), but from the implication of magazine articles, it appears that college students are tired of SNS.

I know not to translate everything, but even then, I don't understand what this whole sentence means, either. Appreciate your help! :P

It can roughly mean "perspective".

kirikuchi means a point of view, or an approach, by which you analyze and argue a problem.

So, translation is perhaps like this:
As for the contents, it is an argument that business cooperations are not capable of practical use of SNS, but in a different meaning from the argument of this magazine article, it appears actually that college students are now tired of SNS.

The dictionary says it means cut section, or opening

You need a better dictionary. As above, it can also mean "perspective" or "viewpoint".

I tried to use the web translator about the following sentence.
https://translate.weblio.jp/

"それは新しい議論の切り口です。"

The translator said as the follow.
"It is a cut end of a new argument."

This sentence looks good translartion.

the sentence seems to be originally spoken one, not to be a written one.
the word usage is not refined.
probably, the word 切り口 is one of favorite phrases of the speaker.
