Day trip to Koyasan?

Hello,
My mother and I will be traveling to the Kansai region this coming June (based very near Osaka-Uehonmachi station). We've been to Japan quite a few times already so we're looking at things we haven't done/been to yet before.
So, we're thinking of taking a day trip to Koyasan in our itinerary. Would this be feasible? I have read that the overnight stay in the temple is very worthwhile, however we simply do not have the budget to allow for it for this trip.
Thank you, everyone! We greatly appreciate the help.

it is feasible. you can buy koyasan world heritage ticket. maybe it takes 2-3 hours in one way from your hotel.

It is possible, but plan the trip with precise timeline, as buses don't run frequently and not too long after dark.
There is one budget-friendly business hotel Tamagawa Ryokan, that is less expensive than stay at a temple.
