i plan to visit kurobe alpine route in late august. is there still snow that my kids can play with?

When I visited in August 7/8 years ago, there was some pockets on snow. However, these were off the main trails and was often hard packed glacial ice which takes a long time to melt.
As such, there will be snow but your kids won't be able to play with it (either because it's off the trail in a national park) or the stuff is as hard as ice blocks
