What are some weird or goff the beaten pathh Chubu attractions? My JA boyfriend has gone EVERYWHERE. We have a long weekend coming up and are trying to find something new to do instead of typical tourist things.

What do you like to do? Note that Chubu is a large area and not all locations can be easily visited in a weekend.

Once I get some ideas of what you like to do, then I can make some suggestions.....

Sports and shopping.
However, we do like weird things.
For example even though we arenft super interested in nature - we went to some strange nature places in fukui and Ishikawa (rock park looked like mars, abandoned cliff walk, etc)

Do you mean Tojinbo? It's a pretty well known and appears in the movie Zero Focus (definitely the '09 remake and probably the original from '61.

Toninbo and Gamon (spelling unsure).

It may be well known, but I don't think it's very popular. I went multiple times during the summer at what I expect to me the peak of tourist season and there were not many people there.

Shimane has lots of stuff, but I wouldn't be going there for shopping or sports. The Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine is on the list of places I plan on getting to eventually - would that qualify?

Hmmmmm.....

Sports and shopping are not really my thing and my general knowledge is limited as a result. However, I've included some general suggestions which are a bit out of the way generally.

(1) Noto Peninsula. This beautiful coastline is close to the most rural location on Honshu apart from the Top North of the island. A car is really needed here

(2) Itoigawa had some interesting geological structures and had some nice easy bike rides. It's also easily accessible via Shinkansen between Tokyo and Kanazawa

(3) I really enjoyed Iiyama during the Green season. A car is mainly needed and there is plenty of great hiking and other things to do....

(4) Obuse & Togakushi Shrine (near Nagano). These places can be visited as day trips from Nagano City. No need for a car for these ones...

(5) Toyohashi & Toyokawa was a bit different.

(6) Inuyama near Nagoya is one of my favourite places in Chubu. I really enjoyed Meiji Mura - one of the best and largest history locations in the whole of Japan!

(7) Izu Peninsula. There is plenty to do here. From Ito, Shimoda or even Shuzenji Onsen....

I'll also be visiting Sado Island in two weeks so that's another location worth visiting. There are also another 20-30 places I could suggest but it really depends on what interests you....
