Private driver from Kusatsu to Shirahone 2018/7/27 15:21
Hello,

is it possible to book a private driver from Kusatsu to Shirahone (Awanoyu Onsen)?
And how to get from there to Norikura (Zengoronotaki, Ushidome Pond, Dojoike Pond, Sanbondaki, Highland, Mt. Norikura)?
I have 2 days, can you recommend any hiking trails and the likes?

Thanks

Sanbontaki is great to walk. But expect you need for it almost 2h, back and forth, so not so much time for other things. also buses are not that frequent, so you must time well

Shirahone is almost next to Norikura. There is an more close village by that you could stay, Norikura Kogen:

anyhow i would rather go to shirahone cause it is more beautiful.

the path to Sanbontaki starts here:

Okay, thank you very much.

Only problem is we need a private driver from Kusatsu to Shirahone.
Around Norikura busses serve the main attractions?

yes, in summer there are busses that go through the national park.
you can reach shirahone by a (different) bus from matsumoto.

I dont know about those. Other people must help you there. Maybe try tripadvisor forums for advice on how to rent public drivers in Japan in case noone can help here.

But, you can go with public transport from Kusatsu to Matsumoto and from there take a taxi to Shirahone Onsen or wheerever your ryokan will be.
But take care, within Shirahone there is basically nothing. However, probably you can maybe then take another taxi or use the buses that are seen in the above webpage to reach Sanbontaki and other interesting places.

Also maybe suggestion idea: Take train to matsumoto => in case no bus is available, take taxi to ryokan, drop in your stuff and dont let taxi driver continue => drive with him to the nationalpark => make him leave => make your walks and go back with public busses to your ryokan. looks stressfull, but yeah, if you have only one day, it will be like this.

also idea is to ask the ryokan to call a taxi for you to drive you around in the nationalpark. for example you can let hgim bring you form ryokan to sanbontaki starting place, then you tell him to come back in 2-3 hours again.
