Corporate bank account (rejection) 2018/8/14 17:33
I have jus moved to japan couple of months back , I have been trying to open a corporate account for my company to run my business which is registered ,but at the bank they have turned me down . I would like to know what would have gone wrong ?
Is it becoz am new or? My customers are outside Japan so I would really need a account ASAP so they can start paying me .. I feel I am stuck !!!?

You should as your bank for the reason the application failed. Didn't they provide you with any explanation? It seems very awkward. Or is it just a language problem?

Here are a few reasons a bank might reject a new corporate account, though each bank will have additional reasons…

Company is engaged in non-reputable business (pornography, internet scams, organised crime, etc.)
Fear of money-laundering
Company directors have a history of any of the above
Non-resident applicant
Company does not appear to be a `going concern` (review of company charter, business plan, financial statements, etc.)

For a company with overseas headquarters or other subsidiaries, a person might first obtain a reference from their overseas bank.

My limited experience and advice from my accountant is that this is not necessarily surprising.
Two items I could recommend:
- get an accountant (if you have not already)
- get your accountant to help and look for somewhere where it might be easier to open a new account, like Rakuten Bank.

If you were really stuck, and can afford the stingingly high fees, you can process payments through PayPal and extract funds to your personal account. However, my experience with them hasn't been smooth either. An arbitrary account suspension (due to business growth) and refusing to acknowledge inquiries wasn't very helpful.

How about a personal bank account? It's easier than a corporate account.

If you bank issues go to the main branch where often English Speaking staff is located.
Proceed applying again with help with the staff. If you are rejected again than ask why and what you need to do to solve this issue.

If you need ASAP asking here does not work. There are so many small reasons why you can be rejected.
