Due to KIX closure, NGO/NRT instead? 2018/9/11 08:18
Hello, please help!
In about 10 days I suppose to fly from Canada to KIX and then take the Haruka Express to Kyoto Station. Hotel is already booked near Kyoto station. Not sure whether KIX will be open on my travelling date. Should I change my flight to arrive NGO and then take the trains to Kyoto station? Or should I fly in to NRT and then train to Kyoto? I lean on arriving to NGO cause it seems traffic there is lighter then NRT.
Please give me any advice and suggestions. Thank you very much for your time in advance.

International flights to/from KIX is a big question mark as of this writing. If this trip is very important to you and not easily rescheduled, I would seriously consider finding another flight.

That would be a question for your airline. KIX is reopening, but in stages.

Both Nagoya and Narita ar valid options. It depends on other factors such as this two travel time, ease of rebooking , arrival time vs transport options that Kyoto...
Would agree with PP that this is a question for your airline.
Enjoy your trip to Japan!

Re: your options to get to Kyoto 2018/9/12 16:45
Where are your destinations? Just inside Kyoto City?

Centrair [NGO] is actually outside Nagoya City.
When you head to Kyoto, Centrair [NGO] has a geographical advantage,
though from YVR (in Canada),
only a small number of regular flights are scheduled, not every day.
Make sure to check carefully on which day(s) you can take a flight.

When you travel fast by railway from Centrair to Kyoto Station,
you go to Meitestu Nagoya Station,
walk to Nagoya Station of JR,
and take a westbound Shinkansen train.

Narita Airport [NRT] is actually outside Tokyo.
To Narita Airport [NRT],
currently regular flights are available every day
from four airports in Canada:
two flights from YVR,
one flight from YUL,
one flight from YYC and YYZ (the same flight).
Depending
on your departure airport
and the length of time spent for your immigration procedure,
you may not soon catch a flight for Osaka Airport [ITM, Itami Airport],
maybe you have to stay overnight.

Haneda Airport [HND] is in Tokyofs urban area.
To Haneda Airport [HND],
currently one regular flight is available every day
each from YYZ and YVR.
The arrival from YVR is expected in the evening;
you highly likely have to stay overnight.
From HND there are more departures for ITM, more frequently,
than from NRT.

What about Kobe (UKB) airport?

Thank you Curious for your suggestion, but there is no direct flight from where I am to Kobe. Hi Omotenashi, my plan is to station in Kyoto and do side trips for 7 days. I will most likely change my itinerary to fly in to NGO and spend one and half days there. I will then take the train to Kyoto like you suggested. I have checked the flight and availability. I searched and seems NGO is operating business as usual. Am I right or not? Again, Omotenashi thank you for your detail response. Very much appreciated. Thank you everyone else.

I stopped reading this all..
But I moved my united flight to HND and then taking an inexpensive ANA flight to ITM (another airport (regional) in Osaka).
United did not charge me any fees for this.
