7 day itinerary Tokyo, Nikko, onsen 2018/10/25 22:24
Hi
Travelling to Tokyo early February for a week want to spend a day in Nikkō as well as experience an Onsen, with one other traveler .

Would a 7 day JR pass be worth it, and and rough ideas/itineraries would be appreciated.

We both enjoy walking, sight seeing people watching and history.

Thanks

If it is just Tokyo and Nikko you are visiting, JR Pass is not recommended (too expensive).

There are 2 rail companies serving Tokyo to Nikko - JR and Tobu.
Tobu runs most of the buses in Nikko, and offers lots of passes and package deals to Nikko. So, I would recommend looking into Tobu.

Hi!

Depending on your itinerary it might be worth it to get a Tokyo Wide Pass.

Other possible destinations include:
- Karuizawa
- Chichibu
- Izu peninsula
- Takao
-(Hakone) the pass is valid only to Odawara from there you need an other pass or ticket

Or if you go in winter I think the pass is good until Gala Yuzawa skiing resort.

Great Thanks

To confirm JR RAIL PASS isn't needed just a nikko day pass and Kamakura day pass?
Wondering if it would be difficult to get from the ski resort to the airport a bit too much hassle

DAY 1
Arrive at Narita Airport at 0840 , and explore the remaining day in Tokyo.

Day 2 - Tokyo
Western Tokyo Full Day

Day 4 - Nikko Daytrip
Purchase a Nikko Pass and use it to take a daytrip to Nikko, two hours north of Tokyo.

Day 5 - Kamakura Daytrip
Undertake a one day trip to Kamakura, one hour south of Tokyo.

Day 6 –Tokyo again or Gala Yuzawa skiing resort.
Gala Yuzawa skiing resort.

Day 7 - Depart from Narita Airport
Depart Japan from Narita Airport.

I think I read your original post to quickly. You were mentioning to buy the 7 day JR pass. I thought you spoke about the Tokyo Wide Pass, which is 3 days in a row for travelling.

I think 7 day nation wide JR pass will not pay off as you never leave the Kanto area. But have a look in those other passes. There is a specific one with Tobu for Nikko, then there is the Tokyo wide pass (I think that's the name) which would get you to Yuzawa, but also to Karuizawa and a lot of other places.
