Hi all,
My kids are very keen to see snow and snowfall. This will be a first for them. Since we have missed December window now looking at March, specifically 16th to 24th March school holiday period. Where can I go in Japan to see snow and would there be any snowfall that we can witness at all during that period. Fyi - we're from Singapore and doesn't necessarily have to be Ski activities. Just snow and snowfall is the key criteria for this holiday. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Hi, I'd try Karuizawa. Karuizawa is about an hour or so by Shinkansen out of Tokyo and it is a really fun, trendy town. People like it for shopping, shopping bores me to tears but there are other things to do and it does get snow occasionally into April. The Price resort there has a season to the end of March and willl use a snow machine if necessary.
Tsuruya Ryokan there is really good, though probably the Prince will be the place to go if you are wanting the snow experience.

I think you would struggle to find snow unless you go far north. And snow falling at that time of year would be limited to early morning dark hours.

I had heavy snow on 23rd March last year in Nagano prefecture (Kamiyamada onsen town). The year before it was into the first week of April - had a very cold visit to the snow monkeys at Jigokudani. Nagano is not north, but it does have altitude.
