Thank you omotenashi, My current itinerary: Thank you DLi_hk My revised itinerary: Day 1 Nagoya – Takayama Takayama (leisurely old town visit) Day 2 Takayama – Toyama Hida Furukawa (leisurely old town visit) Day 3 Toyama - Matsumoto Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route 6-7hrs (Tateyama-Ogizawa) Day 4 Matsumoto – Nagoya Matsumoto (leisurely sightseeing in the morning) Kiso Fukushima (leisurely sightseeing in the afternoon) Day 5 Nagoya – Kiso Valley Day 6 Nagoya - Chubu Airport
Questions 1. Overnight Gero or Takayama for Day 1? 2. Any suggestions to make this itinerary better using Tourist Pass?

Hmm..., your time for Matsumoto sounds too short. Depending on your destinations, your now-planned trips may be rushed.
You have only five days. The whole Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route plus other five or six areas may well be to much to explore in such a short time span. I would set one no-going-out day for a rest or a possible delay due to circumstances such as weather.
Gero can be a good choice to stay overnight; lodgment facilities may not be located near a JR station, so please make sure to consider in advance the accessibility.
Kiso Valley? Mainly Magome and Tsumago?
