Hi, I have recently received my COE and am delighted. On the certificate in the "status" field it states:
"Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/Int' lservices (5years)"
Does this mean my Visa will last for 5 years?
Thank You!

To be precise, the period that you can "stay" will be for 5years once you have entered Japan using thatvisa (visa is for entering Japan). You will have a resident status to stay for 5 years. I assume your employment contract is very long.
There may be a separate note about the validity of the visa, meaning during which time frame you need to "enter" Japan.

That's right. I assume you (or your employer-to-be) applied for CoE for a visa that allows you to stay for 5 years, based on a 5-year or longer employment contract.

Thank you. It was my employer who applied so I was surprised to see so many years as I had heard that visas were usually given in smaller lengths.
