Ikebukuro St.: luggage out of the station 2019/7/31 20:31
Hi,
I really need help from those who are familiar with Ikebukuro Station.
I am going to stay at Super Hotel JR Ikebukuro-eki kitaguchi for my coming trip in Tokyo.

I would take JR Yamanote Line and get off at Ikebukuro Station. The hotel suggested I should get out of the station at C1 gate.

However, from what I saw on Youtube, that C1 gate has a climbing stair and NO slope pathway for the luggage. I think that is not doable given the fact that my old age might not be able to entertain this option.

Is there any easier way to get out of the station thru the elevator in the station and which one should I take so it would be very near to the hotel?
Super Hotel JR Ikebukuro is located at 2 Chome-62-14 Ikebukuro.

Thanks.

The nearest exit with an elevator is exit C9. Note that this is in the Tokyo Metro part of Ikebukuro Sta., so quite some way from the JR part.

Re: Getting outside Ikebukuro Station with luggage 2019/8/1 11:06
That hotel chain has two hotels in Ikebukuro,
which seem confused while you gather information.

Have you exactly booked
Super Hotel Lohas Ikebukuro-Eki Kitaguchi?
The address in your question shows the location of this hotel.

The hotel suggested I should get out of the station at C1 gate.

Exit C1 (of not JR but subway) is convenient for the other hotel:
Super Hotel JR Ikebukuro Nishiguchi.

Kitaguchi means north exit/entrance.
Nishiguchi means west exit/entrance.

I would take JR Yamanote Line and get off at Ikebukuro Station.

When will you come to Tokyo?
From what place will you head to Ikebukuro?

Ikebukuro station complex is huge, but relatively simple.

Thanks a lot for all replies. They are really helpful and my gratitude to you all.

Dear Omotenashi - You are right. I was mistaken by pasting the wrong Super Hotel JR name.
Yes, it should be Super Hotel JR Ikebukuro Nishiguchi.

To answer your question:
(1) When will you come to Tokyo? - End of October 2091.
(2) From what place will you head to Ikebukuro? - I am taking Tokyo Shuttle (By Keisei Bus) from Narita Airport which will stop at Bus stop#3 in front of Tokyo Station. From there I will take JR Yamanote train to Ikebukuro Station.

From another reply, it seems to me that the elevator at C9 would suit me well as I would not need to pull the luggage along the stair.

Question:
If I would get to the elevator at C9 gate as suggested, how difficult would it be from getting off the platform of JR train to C9?

Thanks.

Re: Ikebukuro St.: luggage out of the station 2019/8/3 13:45
Tokyo Shuttle arrives at Tokyo station at the east side, while JR Yamanote Line runs at the west side. So, I would go to Ginza instead and take a subway to Ikebukuro there.

At Ginza, the Keisei Bus arrives at a bus stop near Tokyo Metro C6 exit. The elevator to Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line Ginza Station (M16) is located on the other side of the street. Getting off the bus, go along the road until Sukiyabashi Crossing. On the other side, there is an iconic Sukiyabashi Police Station. You could ask the way there, but the elevator is just near.

Get on the elevator, go down to B1F, go back to the direction to Sukiyabashi Crossing. Get in a ticketing counter, take another elevator to the platforms of Marunouchi Line. The route is shown as red lines and the elevators are marked in blue on their official map.
https://www.tokyometro.jp/station/ginza/yardmap/index.html

You arrive at Ikebukuro on the same red colored platforms for Marunouchi Line. Take two elevators to get out of the underground. Now, you would be at the west bus pool in front of a 15F-tall building of TOBU department store. Note that I would not use the elevator at C9 exit. If you choose C9, you have to go through an escalator to get there.

Dear Luisjp - this is also helpful and another alternative. Thanks sir.

Re: your route (1) 2019/8/3 16:07
Tokyo Shuttle buses run mostly not via Ginza.
Access Narita buses more frequently depart for Ginza.
http://accessnarita.jp/en/home/#timetable-title-3808

You can travel by the Access Narita bus
to Ginza Station (1000 yen)
then by the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line
to Ikebukuro Station (195yen, paid with IC card (#)).

(#) A PASMO card
is sold at a ticket vending machine at Ginza Station.

In Ginza, you can find your way easily.
Just near Ginza Station bus stop of the Access Narita
is the elevator of subway Ginza Station
(mentioned by Luisjp)
to connect the unnumbered Entrance/Exit (between C5 and C7)
and the pathway for the Marunouchi Line.
Ikebukuro Station is at the end of the Marunouchi Line.

At Ikebukuro Station,
your train's Car No. 6, which is at the head,
is close to the elevator up for the concourse.

: Marunouchi Line trains arrive on Track 1 or 2,
from right to left on the map.

As you see in the map of the above Link (c),
after you get outside the ticket gate
you can choose any of the two elevators for the ground.

The first elevator brings you up to the exit near Exit 19.
For you to catch a taxi, this unnumbered exit may be convenient.

The second elevator brings you up to Exit C9.
For you to walk to the hotel, this exit is closer.

Re: broken links 2019/8/3 16:19
In my previous response,
my two links to station maps are broken,
presumably due to Japanese characters.

Re: Re: your route (2) 2019/8/3 17:53
Depending on dates and time zones,
you may encounter
a weekday morning or evening commuters' rush.

October the 22nd of 2019
is to be a public holiday especially for this year,
due to the Enthronement Ceremony,
and the only public holiday in Japan
during the last 11 days (from the 21st) of that month.

----

In a case
where the elevator of Ikebukuro Station
from the Marunouchi Line platform
is out of service:

You can go down
from the Marunouchi Line platform
to the Fukutoshin Line platform,
go up to the pathway then to the Fukutoshin Line concourse,
and get outside the ticket gate
to the pathway equipped with the elevator for Exit C9.

----

In a case
where the elevator of Ginza Station
connecting the entrance and the Marunouchi Line pathway
is out of service:

You can take a taxi to Yurakucho Station's Kyobashi Entrance.
The taxi fare is estimated at 410 yen.
You can go down by the nearby escalator | elevator
of subway Yurakucho Station (Y-18)
from Entrance D7 to the pathway.
You turn to the left, pass by the first ticket gate,
get inside the second ticket gate,
and go down by the nearby escalator to the platform.
Trains for Ikebukuro depart at Track 2.
https://www.tokyometro.jp/station/yardmap_img/_station_%E6%97%A5%E6%AF...

At Ikebukuro Station,
your Yurakucho Line train's Car No. 3
is close to the elevator up for the concourse.
You get outside the ticket gate,
and walk on the short bridge way
to the pathway equipped with the elevator for the unnumbered exit.

Another option is to take the limousine bus from Narita to Sunshine city Prince hotel.
Alight and ask the doorman / hotel staff to help you get a taxi to your hotel. Itfs less than 2 km and wonft be expensive.
If you use this option, write down the name of your hotel , address and phone number to assist the Sunshine city Prince hotel staff.
This option eliminates all the hassles of changing trains, stations, platforms, luggage after a long flight. But of course the Skyliner & Yamanote is faster.

Re: Ikebukuro St.: luggage out of the station 2019/8/3 22:25
Google Maps should give you the best route. I admit transferring a Keisei train to a JR train at Nippori should be the most recommended solution to a budget traveler. It is so expensive to take a taxi in Japan. Subways are not the way for travelers; you cannot enjoy landscapes.

All the platforms are equipped with elevators both at Nippori and Ikebukuro. I show station maps, but just ask where the elevator is.

Keisei Nippori: JR is at the upper-right on this Keisei map:
https://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/accessj/assets/images/nippori/...
JR Nippori: Keisei is at the bottom on these JR maps.

JR Ikebukuro:

https://www.jreast.co.jp/estation/stations/img/floormap/0108_b1.png
Ikebukuro as a whole: JR platforms run vertically at the right-hand side on this map.

You can get out of the underground even using an elevator in the TOBU department store.
