Japanese appliances in UK 2019/9/18 15:52
Without thinking about the voltage and plug difference, I bought a muji mist machine in Japan and brought it back to uk. What kind of converter do I need to buy to use it? Is it possible? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you! Anna #firstworldproblems

Congrats for buying an electronic appliance. :D
AFAIK the standard voltage in UK is 230v/50hz, and the standard one in Japan is 100v from 50-60hz. Also, check the appliance's voltage to double tap.

The first thing you need is a 100v adapter which you shall avoid to make your appliance unusable. If you manage to find one in UK you'd better buy it asap.

A cheap 230-100v adapter should be ok, but better ask to the shop clerks when you'll buy it. :)

Walk into a electrical shop in the UK and ask for a 240 down to 100 volt step down converter or transformer. What is offered in the UK will be very different to elsewhere in the world. So asking over the internet isn't gonna net great results. You can of course use google to see what fellow UKers have done.

Do not ask for a adapter. That term is just a short version of plug adapter. Depending on which converter/transformer you purchase. Some have multiple plug types allowable. But again once in the electrical shop, these finer details can be addressed.

What is the wattage of this device? I used to live in Madrid (240V) but had US appliances (due to military/government duties) and we had to use tremendously heavy and sizable. Each appliance needed one. Some were about 30 pounds in weight. Please be careful you don't blow the appliance or create a fire.

Just to checking..
Have a look at sticker/label on the machine. Make/Model No.?

What does it say on the electrical power supply/consumption.

Does is show 100V-240V 50/60Hz? If it does, then you can use it as it is in UK, just need a plug adaptor if it US/Japan 2 prong plug type.

If not, then you'll need a stepdown tranformer 240V to 100V. Again check on the power consumption(wattage) and get the transformer to match. Best consult with electrical shop for safety.
