Kyushu expressway pass for tourists (KEP)

Hello
I am considering to use this pass aim for tourist to save some money in Kyushu expressways.
Can I activate a KEP in the middle of a rental car period and for only some consecutive days?
Or I have to buy it for all rental period even if I won't use it?
An example. Rental car period 10 days, but I'll only drive expressways on days 4-5-6. Could I use a 3 days KEP or I am forced to a 10 days one?
Any experience with this?
By the way, is there an easy way to know how much does it cost a specific toll saying entry/exit points? Any web?
