Is Japan accepting foreign exchange students?

Hey everyone, I'm a student in high school looking to go study abroad next year for a semester, likely from August 2022- February 2023 with the AFS-USA program. But at the moment you can't apply since those time frames have not been added. I need to know on whether or not Japan is open now or your opinions on when it will be.

no one would know with 100% certainty.
but they are dates a very long way away, so should be okay by then.
