I have a friend whose father was a Japanese national who later abandoned him and his mother. My friend would like to connect to his Fatherfs relatives so he could enter Japan and be able to work there.

1st can "your friend" proof or have proof that they have Japanese citizenship. Did the father register them in his koseki because that is important to show connection to Japan/Japanese.
