Autumn Leaves Report 2022

Will a report on the progress of the autumn colours be published this year by Japan Guide?

Unfortunately, we won't be doing autumn color reporting this year, although we may post a couple of reports later during the season in case Japan fully reopens its borders by then.

Ohhh... That's a shame.

If I want to look up Nikko for the autumn forecast, what prefecture / region / etc does it fall under? I looked at the Kishou site but it doesn't have Nikko.

Nikko is in Tochigi Prefecture, Kanto Region.

The weather has been warmer than average over the past weeks, and is predicted to remain warmer than average over the coming weeks. Therefore I would expect the autumn colors to be delayed this year compared to the average year. Average year data can be found here:

In Nikko, I would very roughly expect colors to be good in the high elevations (Yumoto, Ryuzu no taki) around mid October, in the mid elevations (Chuzenjiko, Irohazaka) around late October to early November, and in the lower elevations (town center) around late to mid November.

Thank you Like Bike. That's a useful page. I can't find Karuizawa. When I Google it says it's in Nagano or Chubu but I can't find either.

More generally, is there a useful site on how to locate places on websites like these? I'm mystified by the classification on regions and prefectures.
