21 day itinerary (2 jan - 22 jan '23) 2022/10/31 20:15
Hi Senseis! I'm currently planning for a 21 day trip from 2nd Jan to 22nd Jan next year. I'm abit overwhelmed by the transportation options in terms of JR passes, regional passes or not go for any passes. My itinerary is as follows:

2-6 Jan - Osaka/Nara
7-8 Jan - Tottori
9-11 Jan - Kyoto
12-13 Jan - Kanazawa/Shirakawa-go
14 Jan - Takayama
15-17 Jan - Hakone/Kawaguchiko
18-22 Jan - Tokyo

I used the JR pass calculator to plot out my routes for the trip and it seems like i might be paying more for a JR pass than if i were to buy individual tickets. I'm thinking of getting regional passes instead but i'm not sure where to begin looking. Hope to get some advice here!

There is this convenient page summarizing the options of rail passes you have:

But it might be that no pass is the way to go (sorry not an expert on rail passes as I donft qualify)

There was also a pass that could be used on the Kansai and Tottori JR lines (also the Chizu Express).
