JR pass expiring past 12mn, connection to NEX

Good day all, I'm currently in Japan with a JR pass, have a rather specific question.

My JR pass expires 7nov 2359, I have booked my sunrise izumo (overnight sleeper train) departing before 7Nov 2359 (thus still covered fully by JR pass) and arriving in Tokyo at 8Nov 7am. I thereafter have a short window to transfer to my narita express (have already reserved a seats, paid using cash as JR pass is no longer valid).

As this is a JR to JR transfer, I will not need to exit at Tokyo Station, can just walk to the other train.

My question I this, how do I exit at narita Station? Do I use my JR pass, which is no longer valid? Does the narita express ticket cover base fare? - it cost 2870yen (Tokyo to T1 narita)

Yes, the base fare is still covered by your Japan Rail Pass. You only need to pay the supplement fare for the NEX between Tokyo and Narita Airport, which you should purchase separately in advance. I assume that you should simply be able to pass through the ticket gates by inserting your Japan Rail Pass.

Or feed the NE'X ticket into the fare gate to exit.

If u cross midnight (over the date) while boarding the train,
ur pass(base fare ticket including) is valid until exit the ticket gate.

This special rule is called "継続乗車船(Keizoku-Josha-Sen)" in Japanese.
Last kanji(text) "船(sen, also fune)" means "ship,ferry,boat" ,tho,
but this is bc railroad company also operating a few ships,
translation web/apps just adds "ship" as it is, so no need to worry abt it.
"Continuing Ride (for our trains and ships)" is right i think.

If you cannnot communicate well with the stn staff
or conductor at the stn where u board the LtdExp Sunrise,
explain that this is the rule, and they will understand within 5 sec.

寝台特急サンライズ乗車中にジャパンレールパスの有効期限が切れますが、
このまま東京駅から先でも改札を出なければそのまま乗れると教えて貰いました。
改札を出ずに成田空港までN'EXに乗ります。パスとは別に特急券は買って有ります。

I was told that my JAPAN RAIL PASS will expire during the "LtdExp Sunrise" ride,
but that I can continue to ride the train fr TOKYO stn onward without exiting the ticket gate.
I will take the N'EX to Narita Airport without going through the ticket gate
and I bought an express ticket separately fr the pass already.

LtdExp Sunrise is so popular especially Japanese rail fans(me .too),
so caught her by several Live Cams on YouTube along the route.
Some channels will also keep archives every night,
so u can watch the footage even after u return to ur home country anytime.

If u can stay awake and not go back to sleep, u might be able to get an image
if u open the curtain on the left side ard 12:55 A.M. and look out the window.
The reason i recommend a cam passing at this time is bc it is the closest distance
and using HD cam with sound. (some channels are also HD cam but no sound)

That time of passage is when the train is on-time,
so if delay, remember abt 23 mins usual after the train leaves Osaka(大阪) stn.

In the end, I entered himeji station using the JR pass. Upon reach Tokyo, transfer to NEX was done without exiting the station. At Narita Station, I tried exiting with JR pass but it was rejected. The pre-purchased NEX stub worked at the gate.
