Which train from Yamagata to Akita?

I will be in Tohoku in mid February and going from Yamagata to Akita . Which way would be best with view etc .
I know I can go express to Sendai then Shinkansen .
Or
Shinkansen to Shinjo then express train to Akita .
Both are similar time frames .
From what I can see via Shinjo is through the moutains with views of rice fields etc .
Anyone done the express trainvia Shinjo ? Is there a "trolley dolly " : - ) or are you making sure to pack a cut lunch ( no crust katsu sanger ) nibbles and drinks ?

Take the shortest route. Way more scenic. Take a bento.

I took this train once from Daizem to Shinjo. It�fs a normal local train, so no food/drinks sold on board, but you can bring some. To my recollection the seats were along the windows, ie perpendicular to the train direction. So no table. So better to bring something easy to eat.

On the night of February 15th and 16th, Kamakura will be held at Yokote (Ou Main Line).

I think we will take the express Ou line . We do enjoy the train journey and views , many the express regional type train lines have been most enjoyable We will only be in Akita for the afternoon evening then on further

Looks like ok mostly for Ou line but its a month away so much can happen . If delays into Akita its not a problem as we aimed to be there around 14.00 .
