Takayama-Hokuriku pass

Hi ! I understand that using takayama-hokuriku pass, from Nagoya to Osaka, I have to go through the loop; may i know how long it take ? and do I have to change train within the loop? can I use the pass from Kyoto to Kanazawa then takayama ?

About 7 and a half to 8 hours by railway, on three trains.

From Nagoya via Takayama to Toyama
: Limited Express Hida.
From Toyama to Kanazawa
: Hokuriku Shinkansen (any train).
From Kanazawa to Osaka
: Limited Express Thunderbird.

can I use the pass from Kyoto to Kanazawa then takayama ?

Yes.
There are a few routes from Kanazawa to Takayama covered by this pass.

You can go by railway via Toyama Station.
When you choose bus,
you can stop by Gokayama and Shirakawa-go,
though there are not many connections.
