Tohoku Sakura forecast from Kishou 2023/3/14 23:57
Hello,

i am planning to visit Tohoku for sakura viewing, but recently the forecast from https://s.n-kishou.co.jp/w/sp/sakura/sakura_hw.html?&yosou=1&f=cn_tn23... are getting earlier and earlier.

I plan to see sakura on these spots, on these dates :

23 - 26 April 23 : Stay Morioka : Day trip to Kakunodate, Hirosaki, Kitakami tenshochi

26 - 28 April 23 : Stay Hakodate : Daytrip to Matsumae

From what i've seen, the sakura forecasts seems to say that it's gonna bloom earlier.

https://s.n-kishou.co.jp/w/sp/sakura/sakura_hw.html?&yosou=1&f=cn_tn23...

a quick inspection yields the following predictions :

Morioka : Full bloom 18/4, normal 24/4

Hinokinai river 24/4

Hirosaki : Full Bloom 22/4 (for somei yoshino)

Hakodate : Full Bloom 28/4, normal 5/2

Am i going to miss the best timing for sakura? would the sakura trees already be past peak by the time i reach there? Should i be worried?

ADD: I had planned to stay at hirosaki from 25th - 27th April, however when i tried to book last sunday, i was surprised to see most hotels in hirosaki are full, including the ones in aomori. are there any other good cities to base myself from if i want to explore hirosaki?

Kindly enlighten me

Aomori still seems to have rooms available. At least on booking.com.

You have to travel by train, but what about Goshogawara or Kuroishi?
You can also book business hotels in Goshogawara.
I once stayed one night at Goshogawara.
Although I have never been there, there is also a Tachineputa no Yakata.

Alternatively, Owani Onsen or Asamushi Onsen may be good.
Except for Goshogawara, there seem to be few rooms left in the inns.
For bookig.com.

When traveling from Hirosaki to Goshogawara or Kuroishi, please note that the last train departs around 21:00.
Asamushi Onsen requires transfer to the Aoimori Railway at Aomori Station.
To get to Owani Onsen, you need to get on the JR Ou Main Line from JR Hirosaki Station, or on the Konan Electric Railway Owani Line from Chuo Hirosaki Station. The Konan Electric Railway Owani Line finishes at 21:30 and the JR Ou Main Line at 22:32, but it takes about 15 minutes by car from Hirosaki Castle to JR Hirosaki Station.

@haro1210

Nah.. the transit would take me around 1 hrs +.

I had considered bunking in Odate, they have 2 good hotels, it's just that there isn't many attractions to be spoken of.

I decided maybe it's better for me to stay in Morioka, although the transit would have taken me 2 hrs. On my way to hirosaki, i could drop by Aomori visitor center, that's what i figured.

However, the sakura forecast are getting even earlier in kishou. The website is forecasting that it is possible that full bloom will be on 4/18, and by golly that's like 6 days away from my arrival date on morioka, 23/4. Am i making a mistake by staying in morioka? should i stay somewhere else?

i think you need to let go of the possibility of seeing sakura.

Kishou's pretty accurate, i don't think you'd be able to see sakura at their best.

You should revamp the whole itinerary into hokaido centric, just saying

It may be difficult to get there without a car, but even if the cherry blossom season around Hirosaki Castle is about to end, there is a possibility that you can see the cherry blossoms around Mt. Iwaki. It seems that you can also go by bus.

It is said that it is Oyamazakura, not Somei Yoshino.
If Morioka and Odate, Odate has better access to Hirosaki.
Odate certainly seems to have few sightseeing spots other than Akita dogs.

Kosaka town seems to have more tourist spots.
