7 or 14 day pass? 2023/6/15 11:24
Hello, we'll be in Japan for 10 days in July. We'll arrive in Tokyo Fri, July 14 - Sat, July 15, then head to Kyoto on Sun, July 16 on the bullet train. We're also planning to travel to Osaka and Nara from Kyoto through Wed, July 19. We'll head back to Tokyo Thu, July 20 and stay until Sun, Jun 23. Is it worth getting the 14 day pass or should we go with the 7 day pass to cover the bullet train from Tokyo > Kyoto > Tokyo?

Thank you.

14 day = no

7 day = maybe

Depending on if you wanna use solely JR trains which isn't real good in Kyoto. And walk a little further to sights.

If you are gonna use an IC card in Kyoto and use buses and private railways. Then 7 day probably won't pay off.

There has also been a 60% increase in pass costs announced for October. No real more I to has been provided. And we put lic are in the dark mostly about it.

If this happens. Then the 7 day pass won't be good value also.

7 day pass will barely pay off. 14 day pass is too expensive.
I would NOT buy a JRP at all. So you can take the faster & more frequent Nozomi Shinkansen and have liberty in Kansai to use non JR lines which May be more useful for getting to Nara / Osaka.

Given the limited saving (you could buy the 21-day advance purchase tickets through SmartEx to save more), avoid the hassle and time consumed by the JRP and the more limited trains. Tickets from a machine - quick and easy.
