Takeo Onsen, Ureshino Onsen and Mt Kuju 2023/6/24 23:14
Hi everyone,

1. If you could choose between Takeo Onsen vs Ureshino Onsen, which one would you choose and why?

2. We will be based in Kurokawa Onsen for two nights. We are planning on the second day to go to Kuju Mountain for a 2-3 hrs exploration. We saw photos of Makinoto Pass which looks pretty but wondering if hiking up to the base on Hosso Mountain is worth it or not in terms of difficulty level vs the autumn view, as we might be too late? We will visit Kuju on 9 Nov.

3. Is it worth visiting the wetlands boardwalk next to Chojabara Visitor Centre?

4. Or alternatively, is driving to Mt Aso would give us just as spectacular view of the mountain ranges, and with less effort required? I read that you can drive all the way to a carpark near the crater? Or is the area after the toll road still closed?

Please share your thoughts and suggestions :)

1. I'd choose Takeo Onsen for Mifuneyama Rakuen garden.
2. Makinoto Pass car park may be full for hikers unless you reach there early in the morning. Lolcal hikers reach there very early for safety in order to come back before sunset. Early Nov can be in autumn color.
3. There're shorter and longer walk course in Tadewara Wetland from Chojabaru Visitor Centre. Walking there is fun for us. It's up to your interest.
4. When it's crater observation area is open, drive to the carpark near the crater is possible. There's a toll booth before you reach. We visited there in May. The view from Daikanbo is also very pleasant.
