You would not break even on the Hokuriku Arch Pass for your plans. You'd also have to pay for the bus between Nagano and Ogizawa where the route starts from the east.

What other places do you plan to visit?

Only non-JR companies
serve the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.

Hokuriku Arch Pass is designed for you
to use the JR Hokuriku Shinkansen
between Tokyo and Hokuriku Area;
it does not cover any section,
any transportation modes (bus, cable car, rope way)
along the Alpine route.

Thank you very much for the enlightning answers here.
Our journey will start from Osaka to Tokyo.
Will skip the Hokuriku Arch Pass then and go with Suica if this pass not suitable for Alpines Routes.
Last question, if we do day trip Alpines Route from Tokyo, should we start from Nagano or Toyama?

Re: Hokuriku Arch Pass from Tokyo 2023/7/17 12:45
If your destinations are Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route and Tokyo and you will land in KIX, why will you take round trip from Tokyo to the Alpine Route instead of going there on the way to Tokyo from KIX?

Could you write down your itinerary day by day including the date so that we can suggest more appropriate plan? Like this:

Sep 10 Land in KIX at 10:00 AM.
Sep 10-13 Stay in Kyoto.
Sep 14 Go to Tokyo by Tokaido Shinkansen.
Sep 14-18 Stay in Tokyo. Day trip to the Alpine Route.
Sep 19 Depart from Haneda airport at 20:00.

If you are planning to do your trip on December, you can't do the Alpine Route since it is closed.

Hi frog1954.
Our previous original itinerary will start from April 2024.
April 8th 5pm landing KIX and stay at Namba area for 2 nights
April 10th stay over night at Kyoto
April 11th start activate Hokuriku Pass stay at Kanazawa/Toyama for Alpines Route or stay at Tokyo.
April 12th-16th explore Tokyo surrounding-Kawaguchiko
April 15th or 16th Alpines Route Day Trip
April 17th leaving from Narita.

Luggage was our main concern when we do Alpines Route on the way from Osaka to Tokyo.
As now we digging information for luggage delivery option from Kyoto/Kanazawa to Tokyo Hotel if we stay overnight at Kanazawa/Toyama.

Thanks a million for all respons to this thread.

Re: Hokuriku Arch Pass from Tokyo 2023/7/17 22:38
OK, then you will have plenty of time to plan your trip.

The Alpine Route opening schedule for 2024 has not announced, but it opened on 15th April in these years. If that is the case for 2024, your chance to visit the Alpine Route is restricted to 15th or 16th April.

You will land on KIX, travel to Tokyo and then do the Alpine Route. Normally the fastest way from Kansai area (maybe Kyoto) to Tokyo is via Tokaido Shinkansen. From Tokyo to the Alpine Route, you will take Hokuriku Shinkansen to Nagano and back to Tokyo from Toyama (or Nagano, if the bus from Murodo to Bijodaira is cancelled due to heavy snow). Roughly speaking it will cost 14000 yen (from Kyoto to Tokyo) + 8000 yen (Tokyo to Nagano) + 13000 yen (Toyama to Tokyo) = 35000 yen. The Japan Rail Pass covers all of these rides (it also covers Tokyo to Narita airport, 3000 yen), but the price is announced to raise to 50000 yen so it will not pay off.

For this itinerary I think Hokuriku Arch Pass is a good option for your travel. At present Hokuriku Arch Pass is 25500 yen and I think this will not change drastically, at least until next spring. Hokuriku Arch Pass does not cover Tokaido Shinkansen so you need to travel via gHokuriku Archh, ie., via Kosei, Hokuriku Line and Hokuriku Shinkansen which will take about 2 more hours. You will travel mid April when cherry blossoms will be over in Kansai and Tokyo but you may be able to see them in Kanazawa, Toyama, Nagano or Karuizawa which are on the Hokuriku Shinkansen.

iLuggage was our main concern when we do Alpines Route on the way from Osaka to Tokyo.

Here is one thing to consider: That is about your group. Are they one family or 3 couples or 6 same sex friends? Do you want 6 separate bags to deliver or can they be smaller numbers of bags (can you share the bags, that is). Sending baggage is very easy. You can even send you baggage from KIX to your hotel in Kyoto or Tokyo. Of course sending 3 bags is cheaper than 6 bags. It costs about 2000 yen for 1 bag, irrespective of the distance.

You may better think which hotel type is suitable for you. Due to increasing foreign travelers, apartment hotels open everywhere. These are sometimes more comfortable for group tourists. If you have Hokuriku Arch Pass you should better consider hotels near Shinkansen station (Kyoto, Kanazawa, Toyama, Nanano, Karuizawa and Tokyo).

Wowww, your sample itinerary with Horiku Arch Pass very helpful and thanks a million frog1954.
We aware Alpines Route will open every 15th april (normally). Our itinerary date (8th-17th April) starting from KIX and depart from Narita so we can covered Osaka-Kyoto-Alpines Route (must visit for us)-Tokyo.
Thanks once again for everyone here.
