JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass good enough? 2023/7/27 11:52
Hi.

I'm staying in Kyoto a couple of days and wanted to visit Hiroshima, Kobe, Osaka.

I was going to get a Japan Rail Pass but can I just buy a JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass and still be covered? (I don't spend unneccesary extra money for regions I won't use)

Thank you!

That should be fine for 5 days.

JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass is the more appropriate pass. However you cannot use the Shinkansen between Kyoto and Shin-Osaka and have to use the local, rapid or limited express trains if you do not want to pay extra for that sector https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_kansai_hiroshima.html

Price for the pass will be increased marginally (vs nationwide JR Pass) from 01 October 2023. However the pass still pays for a round trip between Kyoto and Hiroshima https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/pdf/press_20230726.pdf

The Kansai-Hiroshima Pass is a good one and you can take the Nozomi trains with it. One other important thing to remember aside from the above is that from October you cannot get it from JR West in Japan anymore. You'll have to get the exchange order for it from a travel agency before your home departure.
